Your piano’s soundboard is essentially a large, thin piece of wood acting as a speaker — and wood moves with humidity. When Toronto’s winter heating dries out a room, the soundboard shrinks and the pitch drops. When summer humidity climbs, it swells and the pitch goes sharp. Multiply that across a full heating and cooling season, and you’ve got a piano that’s constantly drifting — and, over years, real risk to the soundboard, bridge, and pinblock.
We install the Dampp-Chaser Piano Life Saver System directly into your piano — the industry-standard solution, not a room humidifier that tries (and generally fails) to manage your whole home’s air. A humidistat monitors the humidity right at the source, the soundboard, and automatically runs a small humidifier or dehumidifier to hold it at the ideal 45% relative humidity, year-round, without you thinking about it. Maintenance is minimal: a water refill roughly every two weeks and a pad change once or twice a year.
