When getting your piano tuned for the first time, it can sometimes be a little overwhelming if you don’t know what to expect or how to prepare. Here are some tips for what to do before your piano technician arrives in order to get the most out of your piano tuning.
-
If you live in an area where parking isn’t readily available, communicate with your tuner the best place to park near you when setting up your appointment.
-
Make sure you have blocked off at least 2 hours of time from when the piano tuner arrives to ensure a full tuning, and perhaps some regulation work and adjustments to the action and pedals can be completed.
-
Clear all music books, photos, pencils and personal items off the piano. This needs to be done in order to open the piano to access the tuning pins inside the piano. This will save your piano tuner time and give you a chance to move fragile items safely. Don’t worry about removing piano panels or disassembling the cabinet (unless you are a real keener).
-
Plan on limiting the noise in your home for the duration of the piano tuning. This means turn off the TV and radio, ask the kids to play outside, and save the laundry and vacuuming for another time. Most piano tuners can still tune successfully with a little noise in the house, however, it makes it easier, more efficient and faster with silence, and will, therefore, make the final product better.
